Car Holsters Put to the Ultimate Crash Test in PHLster’s “PHLiesta” Experiment

Jon from PHLster and Netgear57 from Collector Car Feed have teamed up for a 39-minute deep dive into the safety (or lack thereof) of popular vehicle-mounted gun holsters. In their latest video, dubbed the “PHLiesta” project, they put a salvaged Ford Fiesta — and a pile of Amazon’s top-selling car holsters — through a series of real-world abuse tests.

The premise is simple: take the holsters people commonly install in their cars and see how they actually hold up when subjected to the forces of a collision. The team tested everything from magnetic mounts to cupholder holsters, attaching them in common spots around the driver’s area. Then, they drove the car through bumpy terrain, triggered seat belt pre-tensioners, deployed airbags, and even rolled the vehicle over — all to see what survived.

The results? Let’s just say “secure” wasn’t the word of the day. Holsters shook loose, guns ejected, and mounting points ripped free from thin interior panels. Even products that held up under mild bumps were no match for an airbag deployment or rollover.

More importantly, the video addresses a key point: there are safe, comfortable ways to carry on your body in a vehicle without resorting to risky aftermarket mounts. PHLster offers free educational resources on this topic and emphasizes that these findings aren’t about selling gear, but about keeping armed citizens safer in real-world conditions.

For anyone considering a car holster, this video is worth every minute. It’s a mix of practical safety testing, automotive hijinks, and a clear-eyed look at the trade-offs involved in taking your gun off your body when you get behind the wheel.

Watch the full “PHLiesta” crash test to see the results for yourself and decide whether these products are worth the risk.
