TAYLOR, TEXAS (2-minute read) — An armed intruder is in custody after being shot during a break-in in Taylor. According to the Taylor police, Austin Sumpter, armed with a knife, broke into a home on Donna Drive late Monday night. The incident occurred around 11:35 p.m.
The homeowner, upon discovering the intrusion, immediately called 911. As the police were en route, Sumpter managed to enter the home, prompting the homeowner to defend themselves by shooting him. When officers arrived, they discovered Sumpter lying on the front porch, suffering from a gunshot wound to his hip.
During the investigation, officers recovered a large knife with the inscription “Hail Satan” that Sumpter had been carrying. Sumpter was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Following his release from the hospital on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., Sumpter was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Commission of a Felony, a serious 2nd degree felony. This incident highlights the importance of self-defense and responsible gun ownership.
