Weekend Open Thread: The Big Game Cometh Edition

Weekend Open Thread: The Big Game Cometh Edition

Someone described   “January as a month of Mondays after a month of Fridays”.  I thought that was strangely poetic.

Welcome everyone, it is time for another exciting edition of the Weekend Open Thread, back after a short hiatus for SHOT Show.

Whelp, it has been decided. The Chiefs face off against the Eagles next week…

Personally, I am torn. I am sick of the chiefs and all the breaks they are given…

But the Eagles fans are flaming aholes and I have no reason to root for them either.

Other than they have already been penalized for a late hit and holding call.

Anyone but these two.

I am in group 3.

Besides, it is just WWE with plausible deniability.

I am rooting for domestic discord.

As an aside, McNeil is the Ohio Sports meme guru. I admire this man’s meme game so much.

Check him out on X:Reflog_18

I will miss football when it is over.

Well, it should be obvious who this week’s musical guest is…

Actually more of a Sammy guy myself, but the David Lee Roth era was definitely responsible for the most popular songs.

Not caring about the Super Bowl is so much easier when you are primarily a college FB fan and your team won the Natty.

That might have been another of McNeil’s

I watched the game at Circa, and had an absolute blast.

There were Buckeyes everywhere.

And our Buckeyes played like Champions.

Of course Skunk Weasels are doing their best to invalidate our Natty.

That is an HCA original.

This could be the best offseason ever.

Not really…

I know that you all are tired of OSU memes, and will be glad that this is over. But brace yourself for Volunteer basketball memes come March. I hope.

What a difference a year makes.

That is wild.

Finally before I move on to the knife drawing and the non-themed memes of the week, this is one of the greatest door-slammings I have ever seen.

I would say that Chris Henry Jr. is a solid lock for Ohio State. That is a picture of Brian Hartline, our Receiver coach and Buckeye legend, with a victory cigar.

We are in the middle of a multi-week drawing for a CRKT Hunt ‘N Fisch. Congrats to Zach, he is the second “token-holder”, being drawn from last week’s comments. For those unfamiliar, in a two-token drawing you need to be the first person to be drawn in 2 separate weeks. Up to 5 comments and replies are your entries, and if you are new to the blog, your first comments count double, but will be held in moderation until I can approve the first batch.

You can find out more about the Hunt N’ Fisch here.

Good luck everyone.

Now, on to the non-themed memes of the week.

No shortbread for you.

That one goes out to my daughter.

Or if you prefer…

Be ungovernable.

THe struggle is real. You have to read the air freshener can.

I have Zulu on Prime right now. I think I have seen it 15 or more times. Michael Caine’s first significant role.

That ought to get folks going.

Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

I saw a man on the street interview where a black man was going up to white college students and asking “Do you hate any races?”.  A kid responds, “the 01 Daytona”.

Changing gears for a moment, for what I hope might be one of the final times, I want to take a moment to call for the release of the remaining Israeli hostages. When I first started this section of the WOT, October 7th had just taken place. I never imagined that I would still be posting about it almost a year and a half later.

As I watch the violent mob surround Arbel, a 29 year-old civilian Israeli woman who was kidnapped from her home 482 days ago, i’d like to take a moment to remember all those people and organizations who didn’t DO SHIT to help these hostages. Barely even a tweet.

I am happy that more hostages are being released. It is sickening that they are being tormented til the last moment.

Thankfully, there seems to be some momentum in fighting antisemitism on the domestic front. I never imagined that things would be so bad in this country.

From CampusReform.com:

College and university campuses should be places of intellectual inquiry: training grounds for future engineers, statesmen, historians, and physicists. But in 2024, they descended into anti-Israel chaos that made Woodstock look like a polite book club discussion of Pride & Prejudice.

On campus after campus, anti-Israel activists repeatedly beclowned themselves, as Campus Reform constantly reported.

They harassed university officials, assaulted Jewish students, praised terrorist leaders with blood on their hands, and trashed their campuses.

But there is good news: the tide seems to be turning against these anti-Semitic clowns.

Recently, the Harvard Medical School scrapped plans for a panel discussion, originally scheduled for Jan. 21, that would have featured Gazan patients talking about the Israel-Hamas War. The issue with the panel was that it would have featured no corresponding opinions from Israelis.

And the victories don’t stop there.

The same day that the panel discussion at Harvard was due to take place, radicals invaded and disrupted a class at Columbia University covering the history of Israel, reciting anti-Israel propaganda and disregarding the students and course instructor, who asked them to cease and desist.

But this incident, which might have been seen as a routine protest meeting with no serious response in 2024, instead garnered a quick reaction from the Ivy League school’s leadership.

Or this is good news too…

A Chinese national who organizes pro-Hamas rallies at UCLA just got arrested and her visa revoked. She’s going back to China. pic.twitter.com/jWqBA0TS4O

I look forward to retiring this section of the WOT, but I will not abandon it.

Once again, Van Halen, with my favorite song of theirs…

Told you I was a Sammy guy.

Gotcha…

This should be a good conversation starter…

Well, that is about it until next week.

I hope everyone has a great week, and we will see you again for another exciting edition of KNIFE Magazine’s Weekend Open Thread.
