Weekend Open Thread: Like an Overly Sweet Bowl of Oatmeal Edition

Weekend Open Thread: Like an Overly Sweet Bowl of Oatmeal Edition

Hello there People of the Knife. Happy Friday. It is Weekend Open Thread time, and this weekend’s theme comes from my teenage daughter not understanding a Wilford Brimley “Diabeetus” reference, and my meme-bombing her in response.

Since there aren’t many non-political memes bouncing around the interwebs this week, I figured that it would make as good a theme as any.

Plus, my daughter and I have been listening to a podcast on Porter Rockwell, who was essentially Bringham Young’s hitman back in the day. (Legends of the Old West). I wasn’t able to find independent confirmation in a quick online search, but I had been told once that Porter Rockwell was Brimley’s great grandfather.

FWIW, Both the Legends podcast and their partner podcast “Infamous America” are fabulous.  Just finished the series on Patty Hearst on the latter. Highly recommend.

Also FYI, he can’t have a Snickers either…

Name their most famous song in the Comments…

“I wanna check your blood sugar” is my entry.

I still prefer them to DJ Diabeetus…

I want to try this, it looks delicious…

Just Don’t.

And finally…

I don’t see it…

How is everyone doing?

Nothing on the Events Calendar this weekend.

Blade Show

Next Weekend won’t have a WOT, at least in the traditional sense, since it is Friday night of Blade Show.

Anyone going?

I have met Steve T. there a couple of times. I’d love to meet more of you.

There are a few other things in the news, but first…

Or to put it another way…

Obviously, I have to now use the Talking heads as our musical guest tonight…

My favorite Heads song is “And She Was” which will be song #2 below.

As I said, there are some more current event related memes…

The couple that keeps on giving.

I am watching the Tennessee baseball game as I write this. 3-1 Vols in the middle of the 4th.

That wins the internet.

I love baseball. Screw you Larry Dolan. Be thankful that Art Model precludes your ever being the most hated man in Cleveland.

I miss my Indians. And I miss Norm.

Speaking of Ohio. The trailer for Idiot Squisher II just leaked. (get it?)

It could be an annual tradition.

Word travels fast…

Someone is excited…

I’m excited too…

There weren’t quite enough memes to make that the theme this week, and I only had one of them when I picked the theme tonight. I had to do a quick search for the others.

Moving on…

Mmm…

Gerrymandering, just like Mom used to do.

Since we are talking about elections…

You could always vote Libertarian…

Our politicians, and their corporate cronies, suck…

Like last week, I am going to bring my section on Israel’s war in Gaza a bit higher in the column, because the memes related to Super Agent Eli Copter’s sabotage mission keep coming…

And they are starting to overlap with other current events.

I know that these are not directly about Israel…

But Iran is the puppetmaster of Hamas, and is just as committed to eradication of the Jewish state, and their recently salsafied former President are the nexus of evil in the Middle East. If you are unfamiliar why we are celebrating this man’s death, read this.

If you are reading the WOT for the first time, each week since October 7th, I have dedicated a portion of the thread to voicing support for Israel and denouncing the tide of antisemitism in the world (which is expected) and here in America (to a degree which I never imagined possible). I will not be silent, and I will not retire this section until Israel declares an end to its operations in Gaza.

“Never Again is Now”.

Giving away a knife is a good way to change gears. We are doing just that as I drew Mark R.  for the second time this evening. Congrats brother. The Kaila Cummings designed, USA Made CRKT Bugsy is a heck of a knife.

Since we don’t have a WOT next week because of Blade Show, I am not going to pick a knife from our CRKT goodie box. But I will have a swag package from the show that I will put up as the prize from this week’s comments that will be our next prize.

Usual rules apply, up to 5 comments or replies are your entries. If you are new to the blog, your first comments will count double, but they will be held in moderation until I can approve them.

Good luck everyone.

Now, on to the random memes…

It poses a conundrum.

I have questions.

I have seen a few now. Strange looking things.

That isn’t funny HAL.

I’m on my second. But I am a fan of Bloody Marys.

It’ll buff out.

Too soon?

Still better than a cat.

Except that cat. He is cool.

‘Merica

Remember, when the hammer drops on the Skunk-Weasels…

Karma is a bitch.

DnD Reference. If you didn’t get it, you can probably be proud.

This is disturbing actually…

I fear for future generations…

With parents like these…

HOAs are the worst…

Follow me for more life coaching…

Skeletor’s worst nightmare – Hee-Hee Man…

This guy probably does a great job for the first dozen trailers or so…

It ia now 7-3 Vols in the bottom of the 7th. In case anyone cares.

He just didn’t get the joke apparently.

He takes preventing fires seriously.

Related…

Once again, the Talking Heads, with my favorite of their songs…

Wraping things up…

But I am starting to get noticed…

I do my best, but I am not perfect…

It can be hard to keep track.

More like 40-50. but who is counting?

Have a great weekend everyone. It’s almost Blade Show time.

9-3 Vols. Final.
