Weekend Open Thread: Failure to Communicate Edition

0

Greetings and Salutations…It is Friday, and you survived being forced to talk to people face to face.

Admit it, some of you were a bit too excited…

We know what the problem was…

Turning it off and back on didn’t work, so they were forced to use a very Gen X solution…

I wasn’t actually affected by the outage. I know some TMobile customers had trouble, but I was fine.

I think I did a decent job with the website this week, the newsfeed stayed fresh and I had 2 above the fold posts. Part of this loading up is in anticipation of a slower start next week, as it is Press Week, and Mark and I are working on the annual SHOT Show review. We are both a bit behind where we would like to be, so I might not be updating the website much until I am done with that.

I have also been getting ready for our first two lacrosse games that count. My girls have only had 3 weeks of practice so far, and they have had a couple of scrimmages, but this is for real. It is a great group of girls, but we are a mile wide and an inch deep. I have 30 girls, but only 12 or so who have played before. We play both the weakest and the strongest local programs tomorrow. It should be interesting to see how much they have absorbed in a short period of time.

Who is with me? Actually I have made it all month, year, and decade. I am a tea drinker. Or Guinness.

But speaking of the calendar (see what I did there?), let’s check out the Knife Magazine Events Calendar…(As always, ignore the old dates, for some reason they don’t display right)

Blade Show Texas

It is just the preview that is messed up. The correct details are there…

So ignore the 2023 date for next week’s shows…

Spirit of the Blade Custom Knife Show

Or 2019.  I don’t know why it displays the first show dates entered.

Bunker Hill Knife Club Show

We have been on a run of many weeks of having a theme for the memes. This week we actually had 2 potential themes, but this next one is a little more obscure…

Apparently, a Florida cop got scared by an acorn falling on his patrol car and opened fire on an innocent driver whom he had pulled over.  Thankfully, his aim was terrible and the driver was not hurt.

There are a bunch more…

Not much more to say…

So I will just keep posting them…

This one comes from Julio Diez, who has a table at Blade Texas.  Stop by and see him…

You knew this one was coming…

Before we get to this week’s knife drawing, our first musical number.

The Beatles inspired a mixed bag of reactions.  No one seemed to engage with The Surfragettes. So tonight is the most classic of classic rock bands, Led Zeppelin.

Can’t go wrong with Zeppelin. Over the Hills and Far Away is my favorite of theirs. To me it is the quintessential Zeppelin song. Starts slow, and builds to a really rocking crescendo. It is on my short list of pregame music, and I will probably have it on tomorrow as I drive to Pigeon Forge. Tell me your favorite in the comments.

Congrats to Cmeat, for being the winner of the CRKT Ripsnort 2. I mailed Heather’s knife yesterday, and I still need to get Del’s ready to clear customs to Canadia.

Del…can you confirm?

Next week starts a 2-Token Drawing for a CRKT M-40-15.

It is a premium knife, upgrading Kit Carson’s classic design with a Deadbolt Lock and Veff serrations, hence the 2 token drawing. And the knife is Hocky approved, given it is made in Free China, aka Taiwan.

Hocky – Please let us know if you want to be considered. Also, is this true?

We kid because we care. You will always be our favorite Bubblehead…

…and we are forever grateful for your service.

Usual token drawing rules apply.  You first weekly draw gets you a token, and you need to be drawn twice to win. Up to 5 comments or replies are your entries, and if you are new to the blog, your first comments will be held in moderation until I can approve them.

Good Luck Everyone.

On to the non-themed memes.

Took me a second. I’m not that bright.

I’m loving it.

“There are a bunch of savages in this town” – Randall (who knows the reference?)

I’d buy a ticket.  Probably go for less than those Commies in Rage charge.

Birds aren’t real.

I usually stay away from drug memes, but I laugh snorted at that one.

It’s what’s for dinner.

The Coyote has been through a lot. Cut him some slack.

I still want to know what Jolene was bringing to the table over Dolly.

True Friendship.

And they taste like chicken.

Been there. Done that.

She was…and Lt. Dan is still a hero.

It really does help.

Shots fired.

Sweep the leg…

…and stomp the groin.

Follow me for more safe driving tips.

Global warming in action.

Truth.

I wasn’t expecting that.

I bet you did.

I interrupt our weekly revelry, to focus for a moment on a more serious topic.

If it is hard for me to believe that it has been almost 5 months since the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7th. Since then we have seen an unprecedented in my lifetime explosion of antisemitism. I never thought I would see it in this country.

The first week after the attack I shared Matisyahu’s “One Day”, an anthem of peace. Unfortunately, he has had to cancel concerts in the States when Hamasniks who worked for the venues refused to come to work. They are choosing to support genocide, as to allow Hamas to continue to control Gaza is untenable. Hamas openly calls for the destruction of Israel and the extermination of the Jews. It is in their charter. Israel is doing what it must. I support their efforts.

I look forward to when I can retire this section of the thread, but I will not do so until the hostages are returned and Israel declares victory.

This is another of my favorites, though unlike Hills, it is about as far from a prototypical Zeppelin song. I don’t know much of the backstory, and why it is so different, but it always puts me in a good mood. A good tonic coming off the Israel sidebar.

Narrator: They didn’t last long.

Ok, it is getting on time to wrap this up.

Who are we kidding? I don’t have friends.

Have a good one everybody. Go Irish Lax Club!
