How is everyone doing? The Weekend Open Thread is back and ready to rumble.

I never knew Paul was from Cleveland. Huh. Hope he gets beat like the Browns.

As someone who is actually a boxing fan, I don’t really care much about this fight. But as someone who follows the culture, and as KNIFE’s resident Memelord, I plan on watching this evening.

When I say that I am a boxing fan. I was actually serious. Niki and I got married in Vegas the weekend of the Roy Jones Jr./John Ruiz fight in 2003.

When we first started dating, she was traveling for work and would get back Friday evenings. We’d cook dinner and watch Friday Night Fights on ESPN2. So watching boxing is something we have always enjoyed. I bought her a first edition of AJ Liebling’s The Sweet Science one year for her birthday.

So while I am not expecting great things from the fight, I am looking forward to watching.

And with so many memes, I needed to finish this before the fight.

Tonight’s musical guest is Bob Marley. In this case a _really_ young Bob Marley, in one of his very early studio recordings.

Simmer Down is such a great tune. I was a big fan of the Bosstones’ version of this song, but this one is the original.

As I would expect, I liked some of the picks, and others raised an eyebrow. The fact that “Anonymous Defense Industry Lobbyists” don’t like the Hegseth pick is a big endorsement in my book. He hasn’t been on the board of Raytheon or Lockheed. That is a feature, not a bug. It terrifies the bureaucracy.

I like the Tulsi pick, but I have always liked her. Check the date…

2017. She was just an obscure Hawaii congresswoman at that point, but I liked her views on liberty and her willingness to buck her then party when she wouldn’t go along with the BS. She follows her own compass, and I like that.

Pretty much sums up my political views.

The Coast Guard’s Birthday is actually in August, but it is the first time I have seen the meme.

It was actually the Marines’ birthday this week. HBD to our Jarhead friends. Thank you for your service.

How did that work out for them?

It isn’t working for the Jewish students at DePaul University who were beaten up this week. Not working out for folks in Amsterdam either, where riots that started after an Israeli team played a soccer match saw many hurt, and Jews forced to jump into the canals to escape the mob.

The West has failed to root out antisemitism. In fact it has been welcoming it with open arms with out of control immigration from areas of the world where people do not share our values. I know that my platform is small and insignificant in the scheme of things, but I cannot stay silent. I will continue to speak out until the hostages are returned. I can do nothing less.

Returning to our musical guest, Three Little Birds is far and away my wife’s favorite Bob Marley song.

It is on my top 10 list, not only on its own merits, but also because I have so many great memories with her, with that song on our life’s soundtrack together.
