Weekend Open Thread: Don’t Kick me Bro Edition

0

Happy Friday boys and girls. I made it through the day without anyone kicking me in the shins…In fairness, I didn’t throw any short people either.

How is everyone doing? I am going to be coaching all weekend at the annual Battle in the Burg lacrosse tournament. It is going to be rough. Not only are we facing travel teams from Atlanta, we are doing so with less than half our team available.

Ironically, I shared that with my assistant coach before we did, in fact, lose another one this afternoon. 8 girls are on a church group retreat, 3 are running in the state XCountry meet, another is in golfing in the state tournament. Plus a couple of girls with concussions (from basketball), and another few out for various reasons. I think we are at 16 girls out of 34 or so on the roster.

On the positive side, the girls who go are going to gain a ton of experience, especially since 5 girls are actually starting in their first ever middle school game. And we will have a good time, win or lose. In the end these are just exhibition middle school girls lacrosse games in East Tennessee.

And then it will be Halloween…

It is always more fun to share holiday related memes before the holiday as opposed to the Friday after.

Couples costumes are so cute…

How about this one?

It is Rocky Horror season!

Candy tax will be invoked…

Aw-woooo….

Close enough to Halloween.

They should not have mocked him…

This house wins Halloween…

I bet they give out the full sized candy.

Hocky… you were supposed to wait to wear your costume until the 31st. In seriousness, you need to explain that one to us.  What is going on in Hagerstown?

Is this better or worse?

Better still…

Follow me for more cost saving tips.

But you can never be too careful…

No one wants to find that. I’d rather just go to a knife show…

Art Knife Invitational

It is this weekend, ignore the embed date above…

and same with this one…

Fall California Custom Knife Show

Next weekend…

Mt. Vernon Knife Show

I had actually picked a different musical guest for tonight, but as I was working on the WOT, I heard that Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh has died. He was a wonderful songwriter, with Box of Rain as his most notable song. He wasn’t a particularly good singer, unless the comparison was to Donna Jean Godchaux, who’s voice I liken to cats being castrated with a spoon. Consequentially I am sharing the studio version.

He actually wrote the song to his deceased father. Requiescat in pace.

Who else thinks strange women lying in ponds might be a better option?

Last week I referenced Elon Musk. This crossed my feed this week. I promise you it is worth the 3 minutes…

We try to stay apolitical on the WOT, so we didn’t do a bunch of these, but this one was too funny to not share…

If you are a gamer, you understand.

We will also make fun of politicians of any party that  end up hitting a reporter with a ricochet when they were shooting at steel targets with rifles from 10 feet away.

Anyone this stupid deserves our ridicule.

There are other things going on these days as well…

Most of the country does not care about the World Series.

And even Cleveland no longer cares about the Clowns.

Knoxville loves the Vols though…

Because there is no sport like college football…

But legends are truly made under the Friday Night Lights…

Winning a fictional city championship is not as great as winning a real knife. Our Spyderco Clipitool winner from among last week’s comments is…

Mark R.! Even if he doesn’t put beans in his chili.

Next week’s drawing is for a Browning Sage Creek folder. Usual rules apply..up to 5 comments or replies are your entries in the drawing.

We also tried to goose the participation by offering free hats to new commenters. We had one taker…

Congrats Rod. You get your pick from the above. Let me know.  I am going to keep this open for new commenters this week as well, and try again. So excepting the hat that Rod picks, if you are a new commenter this week, your first comments will be held in moderation until I approve them, but you will win a free hat of your choice.

Good luck everyone.

Plenty of random memes this week too…

Watch out for Ruskies Del.

Any Cajuns reading this?

It’s a trap!

Stuart, we didn’t forget about you either my friend.

Just sayin.

Shall not be infringed.

Be ungovernable.

Relatable.

Thank you. Don’t forget to tip your waitress.

Admitting your problem is the first step.

give them a burger instead.s

The Witch of November is about to come stealin’…

If only.

I think I will drive.

It is only fair.

We don’t deserve dogs.

Name the movie.

Reminds me of Mitch Hedberg. “Three easy payments, and one difficult one”.

I am this old…

Good question…

Flashback…

Poor guy…

I have visited him frequently.

Truth.

As with the passing of Phil Lesh, I have learned of Israel’s airstrikes on Iran as I have been writing this thread. Regular readers of the WOT know that I have been taking a brief portion of the thread each week to voice my support of Israel, as a small counter to the chaos and antisemitism that we are seeing in the “pro Hamas” demonstrations on college campuses and in street protests.

In their ignorance, they call Israel an “apartheid state”.

More babies have been born in Gaza since 10/7/23 than even the “Palestinian Ministry of Health” have claimed have died at Israel’s hands since Hamas started this war. Worst.Genocide.Ever.

Nope.

They FAFO’d. The war could end tomorrow if the hostages are returned.

Bring them home now.

Our second musical number is actually a Dead cover of a Bob Dylan tune which Phil would take the lead on.

God bless you Phil…you tried so hard. Pavarotti you were not.

My first show was also at Richfield Colosseum, the following spring.  They played this song again.

Thank you Phil for the memories. Hope you and Jerry have a heck of a jam-session tonight.

In truth, I enjoy it…

I just hope it doesn’t get me in trouble…

I plead the 5th.

Have a great weekend everyone.
