Weekend Open Thread: Could have been an Email edition

0

Whelp, that was a bit of a waste of time. “could have been an email” was defintitely my favorite take on the fight. Welcome to the Weekend Open Thread, where we share memes, and the fix is never in.

Before I get to my thoughts on the fight, I want to share something cool…

I could not be more proud and excited for both of them.

As an actual boxing fan, I did not have high expectations for the fight itself last Friday.

Undercards 2&3 were great fights, and as for the Main Event, I can say that Paul is not entirely without talent.

He moved reasonably well, and threw punches from different angles.

But I would never buy a PPV with him as the headliner.

However, as an observer of the culture, I was happy to participate in what was an experience shared by a sizable portion of the country.

I did not have anything invested in it.

It was an exhibition fight.

I don’t understand why some folks were upset.

Of course we all could have lived without the streaming issues,

or Iron Mike’s bare backside.

The streaming issues were not unexpected, but there is a school of thought that this was Netflix “stress testing” their system in advance of Christmas Day NFL broadcasts.

People will not be as forgiving if their NFL watching on Christmas is glitchy.

They should have tired this…

Now they have tested their tech, and can reinforce the system over the next month and change.

There are a few knife shows between now and Christmas…

…so let’s take a look at the Events Calendar…

Mark will be at the Nashville show. Come say hi.

You can click the images to find out more.

Next weekend…

I have been to the KYCKS, it is a small, invitation only show with some really high-end collectors (and a random knife writer.  I am not in their league)

Haven’t been to Oregon.

I have actually stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. I didn’t see a girl in a flatbed ford however.

Obviously, this was a layup for musical guest. I am not a huge eagles fan, though I won’t hit skip more often than not.  Take it Easy is definitely their best.

Moving on to memes in the news…

There are some good things about RFKjr.

And some less so.

But this is something we should all like to see…

Still not punishment enough.

I am not disappointed Gaetz dropped out, but I hope that Bondi pans out.

Hopefully Pete Hegseth can rein in the Pentagon too.

Elon > Kim

Everyone weathering the cold snap ok?

The Cavs are on fire, though they lost their first game of the year after winning the first 16.

The Clowns managed to knock off Pissburg last night, so we have that going for us.

This season has been largely disappointing. But beating your rivals always offers some redemption.

Beats being a Cowboys fan…

I am worried about the Buckeyes’ offensive line. They have lost both their starting Left Tackle and this week their Center to season-ending injuries.

Everyone knows that Sydney Thomas was the real winner last week…

Speaking of winners, Congrats to Cmeat and congrats to Hocky as well. I drew Cmeat, and made an executive decision to send the second one to Hocky. He could have won a half dozen knives had he not opted out due to his personal views on Chinese made knives. While the Techliner is imported, it is a useful EDC trinket, and I think he will enjoy it. I kept the one from the last batch of CRKT prizes, and I dig it myself. It lives in my Vanquest Dendrite pack.  My primary EDC pen is a Zebra telescoping pen, that ironically Cmeat sent me years ago. That one lives in my PNW Bushcraft Pocket Organizer/Valet Tray.

Next week we will be drawing for a CRKT Pilar Large, a highly regarded EDC knife.

Usual rules apply, up to 5 comments or replies are your entries, and if you are new to the blog, your comments count double, but will be held in moderation until I have a chance to approve them.

Good Luck everyone.

Moving on to this week’s random memes…

That goes out to my buddies Zach and Doug. Maybe I can get them to chime in this week.

Related…

Tis the season…

That was the second silliest meme of the week. This was the silliest….

Safety 3rd everyone.

RIP Warren Zevon. I want this shirt.

I find the best h’our devours come demonically possessed.

I want that sandwich. Hold the Diet Coke.

Reminds me of the one from Hash House A-Go-Go in Vegas. I will be eating one of those at SHOT Show.

But I do enjoy a more classic eatery.

We don’t deserve dogs.

Asking the important questions…

Sounds logical.

Follow me for more weight loss tips.

Bears with mortars. Not a good thing.

Never too early to prepare for Valentine’s Day.

Good question.

So, Stuart… Have you ever been to any of these places?

For Hocky…

Apropos of nothing at all, China is the worlds largest apple producer.

Who am I to question god?

Gross. On so many levels.

I have so many questions.

Shut up and take my money.

GenX was well represented on MySpace as well…

It was a long time ago.

I miss those days a bit.

Definitely a Halberd.

The best humor is grounded in fact…

As I have every week for more than a year, I am using my platform to call for the release of the hostages, and voice my support for Israel in its war against Hamas, Hezballah, and by extension Iran. I speak out to push back against people like this…

I will continue to do so until the hostages, including Americans, are returned, and Israel declares its operations to have been concluded.

This is a joke. The ICC is a puppet of dictators and tin-pot theocrats. Kudos to Fetterman.

Trudeau can get bent however.

He is a clown, who inherited his broken moral compass from his father. Whichever one it was.

Returning to the WOT…

I bet you thought the. second musical number was going to be the Eagles. But as I said above, I am not a huge Eagles fan.

I like that song better than any second Eagles option. Did I make the right decision?

There is always someone…

That wouldn’t be any of you.

I think I have shared that one in fact.

And Caddyshack.

Have a great weekend everyone.
