4 Spyderco Natives, and a heck of a lot of cardboard

4 Spyderco Natives, and a heck of a lot of cardboard

Projects can sometimes move slowly. The genesis of this test came when Spyderco gave me a Native 5 in LC200N and I purchased a KnifeCenter exclusive Native 5 in CPM CruWear and smooth G10 scales. I already had a Maxamet one, as well as an earlier model Native that still had a pivot rivet and not an adjustable screw.

At the same time Joyce was giving me the LC200N Native Salt, I was talking to Shawn Houston of Triple B Handmade, who had a Spyderco release at the time. Shawn is a steelhead, and recognized as a master sharpener. Since the 3 Native 5’s had identical flat grinds, we thought it would be fun to do a cardboard cutting test between the 3.

Shawn provided the initial sharpening on all 3 knives (and even Rockwell tested them). We did this so that we would have as close to identical blades when we started.

I am not going to go into the results here at this time, but thought I should give you all an update. I am going to discuss the results with Shawn and get some technical explanation of what I witnessed/experienced.

Stay tuned.
