U.S. Paralympic Shooters Excel with 13 Medals at Arequipa Grand Prix

AREQUIPA, PERU (Aug 5, 2025) –USA Shooting paralympic athletes earned an astounding 13 medals at the 2025 World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) Grand Prix in Arequipa, Peru held July 30 to Aug. 5, delivering a powerhouse performance.

The team’s impressive medal haul solidified the United States’ position at the top of the medal table among the 10 nations at the competition. The grand prix was a milestone event for many Team USA athletes, with several making their international debut, competing in their first international finals, and earning their first medals on the world stage.

On the final day of the competition, Taylor Farmer, Landon Ruggera, Jadon Nafziger, Ben Hays, and Michael Tagliapietra all reached the podium.

Farmer and Ruggera earned silver and bronze, respectively, in R6 Mixed 50m Rifle SH1 after an exciting final. Farmer, a Tokyo 2020 Paralympian, doubled her medal count at the grand prix by earning a gold medal in R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle SH1. Ruggera, a Gunnison, Colorado, native, also added a gold medal to achievements in Arequipa when he topped the podium in R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle SH1.

Nafziger earned his first international gold medal by topping the podium in R9 Mixed 50m Rifle SH2, making a remarkable international debut in Arequipa. The Mackinaw, Illinois, native also brought home a bronze medal in R5 Mixed 10m Air Rifle SH2.

Hays joined Nafziger on the podium in R9 with a silver medal. The Annandale, Virginia, earned an incredible three medals at the grand prix with a silver in R5 Mixed 10m Air Rifle SH2 and a bronze in R4 Mixed 10m Air Rifle  SH2.

Tagliapietra, a Rio 2016 Paralympian, earned silver in P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 on the final day of competition. The Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native also earned a bronze in P3 Mixed 25m Pistol SH1.

  8. Jadon Nafziger: Bronze, R5 Mixed 10m Air Rifle SH2
  9. Taylor Farmer: Silver, R6 Mixed 50m Rifle SH1
  10. Landon Ruggera: Bronze, R6 Mixed 50m Rifle SH1
  11. Jadon Nafziger: Gold, R9 Mixed 50m Rifle SH2
  12. Ben Hays: Silver, R9 Mixed 50m Rifle SH2
  13. Michael Tagliapietra: Silver, P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1

This year’s 13-medal performance is an impressive increase from the nine medals Team USA earned at the 2024 competition.
