Tumbler Rolling Knife Sharpener Review

Knives are one of those tools we use daily but often we wait until they stop cutting before we take the time to maintain the edge as we should.   I’m guilty of this even though I’m the guy who always has a knife in my pocket.  Having a dull knife is, as many of us know, more dangerous than a sharp knife.  You have to push harder and there is a risk of the knife slipping rather than cutting.   It can also be embarrassing if a friend asks to borrow your knife and it’s too dull to cut, but conversely, I do enjoy it when someone hands back my knife and says “wow, that’s a sharp knife”.

There are hundreds of different knife sharpeners and many of them either take practice or skill to use effectively and safely.  The Tumbler Rolling Knife sharpener is simple to use and safe to use. I will be giving a Tumbler to my daughter for her first apartment.  There are 2 parts to the System. The Tumbler Magnetic knife Holder contains strong Neodymium magnets that hold the blade securely against the block at either a 15 or 20 degree angle.   I use 20 degrees for my pocket knife and also for my kitchen knives.  The Tumbler sharpener has diamond on one side making quick work of removing materials and the other side is stainless steel for deburring.

Rolling the Tumbler back and forth for 3-5 minutes initially seemed to be taking longer than I expected for a sharpener, but it must be noted that the first time using it on a knife we are reestablishing the angle and future uses will be a fraction of the time, so don’t be quick to judge.    It is a beautiful thing to see the precise and consistent angle when you’ve finished.  This is what I love about the Tumbler Rolling knife sharpener, I don’t have to worry about getting lazy and messing up the angle.  My daughter will have no trouble sharpening her kitchen knives. I sharpened my most used kitchen knives as well as my EDC knife.

The designers didn’t neglect form for function. This is the most attractive sharpener I’ve seen.  The magnetic holder and the Tumbler Roller are a beautiful fine grain wood construction.  They would look nice on display on the counter although I doubt anyone would do that unless they are constantly sharpening knives.  The Tumbler ships in an attractive and sturdy box with an insert shaped to hold each piece.

The Tumbler is especially well suited for longer knives, like kitchen knives.  Keeping a consistent angle on long blades is difficult with other sharpeners but with the Magnetic holder and the Roller, the angle never changes so getting the razor sharp kitchen knives is a sure thing.  We all have our favorite kitchen knife we reach for when cutting veggies because it feels right and cuts great.  Now all your knives can be sharp and make cutting tasks safer, quicker and easier.
