Support the Reauthorization of Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The NWTF supports the reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program and urges its membership to voice their support for the continuation of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program by contacting their local legislators.

“The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program in Wisconsin plays a pivotal role in ensuring that outdoor enthusiasts continue to have access to the state’s natural beauty far into the future,” said Clayton Lenk, NWTF district biologist for Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. “This essential program funds land acquisitions, habitat restoration and infrastructure development, which directly benefits activities like hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping and wildlife viewing, among others. The program conserves Wisconsin’s diverse ecosystems while maintaining the opportunity for sustainable outdoor recreation.”

For the NWTF, the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is particularly important. Through partnerships across the state, the Wisconsin NWTF State Chapter has put Super Fund dollars alongside the program to conserve vital turkey habitats from development. The program’s focus on land acquisition and habitat management aligns with the NWTF’s mission to conserve and enhance wildlife habitats for current and future generations of hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.

The reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is critical to the long-term health of Wisconsin’s ecosystems and wildlife. As more land is conserved and more habitats are restored, the program not only helps ensure the future of the wild turkey but also ensures outdoor enthusiasts have a place to enjoy.

For the NWTF, maintaining conservation programs like the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is vital to achieving conservation goals and preserving the outdoor traditions that its members cherish. The NWTF urges for the reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program to ensure that Wisconsin’s natural resources remain accessible and thriving for future generations of conservationists and outdoor recreationists.
