MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – March 14, 2025 – The No Lowballers Podcast, hosted by Logan Metesh of High Caliber History and Allen Forkner of GunBroker, welcomes Jim Curcuruto, executive director of Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation. On the podcast, Curcuruto shares insights on the vital role hunters, anglers, trappers and shooters (HATS) play in conservation efforts and public perceptions around hunting, target shooting and gun ownership.
“It was a terrific experience being on the No Lowballers podcast. I appreciate Logan and Allen taking the time to discuss how the firearms industry, wildlife agencies and America’s 60 million HATS deserve more credit for all they do to support land, fish and wildlife conservation in America,” said Curcuruto.
Logan, Allen and Jim cover a broad range of topics throughout the episode, including:
- The Role of HATS in Conservation: the economic impact of hunting licenses and funding efforts through excised taxed product purchases and donations to conservation groups.
- History and Evolution of Conservation Laws: early 20th-century conservation efforts and landmark legislation including the Lacey Act and the Pittman-Robertson Act and how these laws helped shape modern conservation funding and practices.
- Modern Conservation Challenges and Initiatives: the concept of “Connecting with Conservation,” a video series aimed at bridging the gap between the industry, conservation agencies and HATS.
- Cultural and Economic Impact of Hunting: the cultural significance and economic impact of hunting across different states and the importance of community and industry support in maintaining and expanding conservation efforts.
“Even as a two-decade veteran of the outdoor industry, I find myself taking in how deep conservation waters run,” said Forkner. “It was great getting to sit down with Jim and get a refresher on everything the Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation does to help connect our industry to the agencies and organizations helping keep our lands open, our wildlife thriving and our waters accessible.”
