Olympian Will Hinton Secures First Individual Gold in Men’s Trap Victory at Lima ISSF World Cup

COLO SPRGS, CO (April 21, 2025) –Will Hinton, a Paris 2024 Olympian, topped the podium after a victorious final in Men’s Trap at the 2025 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Lima, Peru, April 20, marking his first individual international gold medal.

“I am ecstatic,” said Hinton, a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU). “I am pretty excited, not going to lie.”

Hinton, now a seven-time ISSF World Cup medalist, earned his first individual international medal just two weeks ago at the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires. Now doubling his individual medal count with the gold in Lima, Hinton is steadily climbing the international shooting ranks.

“I have been doing a lot of training, but confidence is a big part of the game,” said Hinton, a Dacula, Georgia, native. “I knew if I could gather that, then it would come to me, and I could roll with it.”

Hinton, a 2023 Pan American Games team member, made his Olympic debut last summer at the Paris 2024 Games. His victory at the Lima World Cup boosted the U.S. medal count to an impressive seven, solidifying the country’s position as the top-ranked nation in gold medals.

“We knew that we were going to have a good chance at getting a lot of medals,” said Hinton, a 2023 World Championship team member. “We did a lot of finals training prior to coming down here and I would say that we did fairly well.”

Sagen Maddalena, a Paris 2024 Olympic medalist, claimed gold in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions. Lima marked Maddalena’s return to international competition following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The USAMU Staff Sgt. had taken a break from shooting after the Olympics, making her triumphant comeback all the more remarkable.

The skeet team also had a standout performance at the Lima World Cup, earning five medals. The U.S. Women’s Skeet athletes swept the podium with Kimberly Rhode claiming gold, Samantha Simonton earning silver, and Dania Vizzi winning bronze. Dustan Taylor topped the podium in Men’s Skeet with a gold medal, marking his first individual ISSF medal. Christian Elliott shared the podium with Taylor by earning a silver medal.
