NWTF Partners with Wyoming Game and Fish Department to Support Spring Wild Turkey Hunter Surveys

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The National Wild Turkey Federation is teaming up with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and outdoor brands to encourage participation in the state’s 2025 spring wild turkey hunter survey, providing incentives for hunters who complete it.

To support this effort, the NWTF donated 10 annual memberships and worked with partners to secure 10 OnX Hunt Elite memberships, a Montana Knife Co. Stoned Goat 2.0 knife, a set of Maven 10×50 binoculars and an NWTF 2024 Call of the Year.

Hunters who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing, where 10 winners will each receive a complimentary NWTF membership and an OnX Hunt Elite membership. From those 10 winners, three will be selected to receive the additional prizes: one winner will take home the Maven binoculars, another the Montana Knife Co. knife, and a third will receive the NWTF Call of the Year.

“As participation in wild turkey hunting continues to grow in Wyoming, we must track population trends,” said Brandon Werner, chair of the wild turkey working group for the Wyoming Game and Fish. “We use poult-to-hen ratios, wildlife manager observations and most importantly, hunter harvest surveys. The donation from NWTF provides an incentive for sportspeople to complete the survey, thereby increasing response rates and population trend accuracy. A huge thank you to the NWTF for their donation, continued partnership with the Wyoming Game and Fish and everything they do for wild turkey conservation.”

Hunter surveys provide critical information that helps wildlife managers understand wild turkey populations, hunter success rates and overall trends in participation. This information is used to set future hunting regulations, identify conservation needs and ensure sustainable opportunities for hunters. Without strong participation, important data gaps can limit the agency’s ability to make the most informed management decisions.

Through this collaboration, NWTF is working to ensure hunters’ voices inform conservation and management decisions in Wyoming while preserving hunting traditions for the future.

About the National Wild Turkey Federation

Since 1973, the National Wild Turkey Federation has invested over half a billion dollars into wildlife conservation and has positively impacted over 24 million acres of critical wildlife habitat. The NWTF has also invested over $10 million into wild turkey research to guide the management of the wild turkey population and to ensure sustainable populations into perpetuity. The organization continues to deliver its mission by working across boundaries on a landscape scale through its Four Shared Values: clean and abundant water, healthy forests and wildlife habitat, resilient communities, and robust recreational opportunities. With the help of its dedicated members, partners and staff, the NWTF continues its work to provide Healthy Habitats. and Healthy Harvests. for future generations.
