Moultrie Joins NDA and Cahaba River Keepers for Environmental Stewardship

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – June 17, 2025 – Moultrie, the leading innovator of feeders, trail cameras and game management tools, joined members of the Cahaba Riverkeepers, the National Deer Association (NDA), Pelham High School Environmental Club and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources on June 7, 2025, for a day of environmental stewardship at one of the most essential aquatic ecosystems in the southeast.

Volunteers gathered at the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to clean up illegal dumping sites throughout the Cahaba River Watershed. As Alabama’s longest free-flowing river, the Cahaba is one of the most biodiverse waterways on Earth and is vital to the survival of a variety of Alabama wildlife.

“In 2021, NDA launched a Public Land Initiative entitled ‘Improving Access, Habitat, and Deer Hunting on Public Land.’ Our goal is to enhance 1 million acres of public land by the end of 2026,” said NDA Director of Grassroots Support Matt Wilkins. “As of today, we have impacted more than 970,000 acres. We will achieve our goal earlier than planned and exceed our total acreage for improvements! We can reach these goals ahead of schedule thanks to our fantastic partners and the amazing volunteers who have helped us lead this initiative!”

The event brought together passionate individuals dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and ecological health of the Cahaba River. Volunteers worked tirelessly to remove debris and litter, ensuring that this precious resource remains clean and accessible for future generations. Volunteers worked across six illegal dumping sites, removing a large pile of furniture, construction debris, dozens of bags of collected trash and an estimated 60 total tires.

“We had a fantastic day cleaning up the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. Volunteers from all over central Alabama came out, and working alongside local high school students and conservation partners was a rewarding experience,” said Moultrie Senior Brand Communications Manager Mark Olis. “Moultrie is grateful to partner with the National Deer Association, which cares about our public land and dedicates resources and time to events like this.”

The Cahaba River WMA consists over 41,000 acres and spans two counties in central Alabama. In addition to being home to a diverse river biosphere, the Cahaba River WMA offers a wide variety of hunting opportunities. The vast public hunting land provides a space to hunt small and big game alike, including turkey, deer, bobcat and coyote.

The Cahaba River is a cornerstone of the well-being of wildlife across Moultrie’s home state of Alabama. As hunters and outdoorsmen, it is vital to treat these fixtures of our environment with respect as well as take active steps to mitigate any harm done to them. By taking these steps, the future of our hunting heritage can be secured for generations to come.
