Kansas One Shot Turkey Hunt Set to Take Flight This April

EL DORADO, Kan. – April 1, 2025 – The Kansas One Shot Turkey Hunt (KOSTH) is gearing up for a thrilling event this April, inviting hunters from across the country to partake in a remarkable two-day competition in the El Dorado area and surrounding communities in Butler County. Participants will be vying for the elusive “thunder chicken,” commonly known as the wild turkey.

Highlighting this year’s event are five youth hunters from across Kansas, aged thirteen to sixteen. These young participants will each be equipped with a complete camouflage outfit courtesy of TrueTimber Camo, boots from LaCrosse Footwear and a firearm generously sponsored by local community members and provided by TriStar. Each youth will also receive a lifetime hunting license and a permit sponsored by the Kansas Wildscape Foundation.

“It is always exciting to meet and interact with these kids from across the state,” said Executive Director of Kansas Wildscape Foundation and KOSTH Board of Director Marc Murrell. “We wish them all happy hunting!”

“In addition to promoting the sport of hunting, part of our mission is to honor our American Heroes,” said KOSTH Board Chair John Britt. “This year, three extraordinary individuals will join us, each with a unique story of service as military personnel, police officers, or first responders. They, too, will receive camouflage gear and firearms, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions.”

The success of the Kansas One Shot Turkey Hunt is made possible through the unwavering support of local volunteers, landowners and sponsors. Dedicated volunteer guides engage with landowners, ensuring hunting opportunities on their properties. Additionally, many enthusiastic hunters return year after year, drawn by the unique resources of the area and the camaraderie of the event.

KOSTH extends heartfelt gratitude to our partners and sponsors whose generosity fuels the mission of the hunt and helps create unforgettable experiences for all involved.

Celebrate tradition, sport and honor at the Kansas One Shot Turkey Hunt April 17-18, 2025! For more information about the event and organization, visit www.kansasoneshotturkeyhunt.org or contact Becky Wolfe at 316-251-9352 or [email protected].

About the Kansas One Shot Turkey Hunt
