Granbury MCJROTC Rifle Team Secures Eighth Consecutive Marine Corps Service Championship

Submitted by LtCol Scott Casey

ANNISTON, AL — The Granbury MCJROTC Rifle Team has once again cemented its legacy at the 2025 National Marine Corps Service Championships, held at the CMP South Range in Anniston, Alabama. With an eighth consecutive Service Championship victory, Granbury has made history as the only team in MCJROTC history to achieve eight consecutive championship wins, further solidifying its dominance in the sport.

The team’s determination was evident from Day 1, as they took an early lead with an impressive aggregate score of 2359, setting the tone for the competition. Granbury Team 1 delivered a stellar performance, with each member showcasing remarkable marksmanship. Meanwhile, Granbury Team 2 proved their strength as well, earning a score of 2336 to claim third place in the standings.

On Day 2, the team remained laser-focused on victory, and their efforts paid off. Kennedy Wells took the individual championship title, while Viola Allen (6th place), Matay Turner (7th place), and Renne Sermarini (8th place) all made the finals, demonstrating the team’s depth and talent. In the team category, Granbury Team 1 solidified their dominance, securing first place with an aggregate score of 4712, earning the Director’s Cup. Granbury Team 2 maintained their strong standing, finishing third with a score of 4658.

With this victory, both teams have qualified for the JROTC National Championships, where they will aim to defend their national title and make history by becoming the first school to achieve eight National Championships. This milestone reflects the relentless dedication, discipline, and teamwork of the Granbury MCJROTC Rifle Team.

Additionally, Caylynn Price was awarded the Junior Distinguished Marksman Badge, a prestigious honor recognizing exceptional young marksmen in three-position air rifle competition. The Junior Distinguished Marksman Badge is authorized for wear by all branches of the JROTC program, and in its 20+ year history, only 1,700 cadets have earned this distinction. Granbury MCJROTC now boasts 27 recipients of this elite badge, with past honorees advancing to collegiate rifle teams, the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, and even Olympic-level competition.

Granbury’s achievement of eight consecutive Marine Corps Service Championships is a historic milestone never before accomplished in MCJROTC history, cementing the program’s reputation as the most dominant in the nation.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. It is dedicated to firearm safety and marksmanship training and to the promotion of marksmanship competition for citizens of the United States.
