The Gordini Elias Gauntlet Glove is designed for versatile winter use, offering a combination of warmth, waterproofing, and dexterity that makes it suitable for various cold-weather activities. I specifically picked these up for winter hunts where I knew both wind and snow were going to be a problem for me. As a type 2 diabetic, my hands get cold fast and so protecting them with quality gloves and hand warmers is a must for winter hunting and chores like snow blowing.
These Gordini gloves provide the best of all worlds with a high quality wind stop and a removable liner that gives me adaptability and options depending upon my activity level and the weather temperatures. I first tested these gloves out snow blowing here in Nebraska. The wind was 10 to 15 miles and hour and the temperature was right at about -4 degrees. It was freaking cold. The first couple of things I noticed was the ease in which I could get these gloves on for my hands and adjusted. The straps pull tight quickly and the seal on the back of these gloves in a proprietary design that allows you to cinch them very quickly so no snow will get inside the gloves. Each gloves has retention straps allowing you to remove the gloves but still keep them attached to your wrist.
My favorite features on these gloves was on the thumb of the gloves. They have a small suede leather like surface that allows you to quickly wipe off your runny nose which happens when it is extremely cold. The gloves have room and with the addition of a hand warmer are more than toasty. The Thindown® insulation (150GSM) in the removable liner provides excellent warmth without excessive bulk. The glove performs well in temperatures down to approximately 15°F (-9°C) during active use, while the system design allows you to adjust to changing conditions by using just the shell or liner as needed. I have personally been running these with both gloves on at the same time but I can see where pulling them apart would also be a benefit.
Waterproofing & Breathability
The 10K/10K waterproof-breathable rating offers solid protection against moisture. During testing, the gloves remained dry through moderate snowfall and brief to wet conditions. I ran the gloves under the sink to clean them and water basically pours off of of the liner with no issues. I wouldn’t want to immerse them in a lake for any extended amount of time but they work in snow and quick dips under water. The breathability is adequate for most activities but if you were really moving out you might build up some internal moisture. If you do just pull the liners out at night and allow them to dry out.
Dexterity & Grip
The CLUTCH™ synthetic leather palm provides reliable grip on ski poles, shovels, and other equipment. While not as dexterous as lighter gloves, I was still able to manage basic tasks and I can easily hold my rifle or shotgun with these and still shoot. Of course, if I wanted to feel the trigger, I can quickly and easily pull off my right handed glove and the glove retention straps keep the glove attached to my wrist. Easy Peasy.
The extended gauntlet and drawcord closure system keep snow and cold wind out and the wrist strap is easy to pull or release keeping the gloves securely on your hands. The easy-on pull tab on the guantlet to seal them works better than any gloves we have tried over the last 55 years.
Durability
Over the past several weeks of day to day use, I see no signs of wear on these gloves which leads me to believe that if properly dried and cleaned regularly, these should last for many seasons. Clean, air dry, keep them attached and you should have gloves years down the road.
Conclusion
The Gordini Elias Gauntlet Glove delivers reliable performance for winter sports enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. While not purpose built for hunting, value is where you find it. The balance of warmth, waterproofing, comfort, durability and ease of use means these will be a solid choice for years to come. These are not the cheapest gloves but compared with several premium brands they are right in line.
