“Bowhunter TV” Celebrates 20th Season on Outdoor Channel

Series Continues to Inspire Countless Bowhunters with Host, Curt Wells

Bowhunter TV, a pioneering show dedicated to the art and adventure of bowhunting, proudly marks its 20th season on Outdoor Channel this summer airing Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. ET. This milestone celebrates two decades of capturing the bowhunting experience in a truthful, documentary style that has captivated audiences and inspired countless bowhunters across the globe.

Launched in late summer of 2004, Bowhunter TV was the brainchild of the “Bowhunter Magazine” team, led by current President & CEO Mike Carney, and the late Editor Dwight Schuh. The show was initially produced by Larry D. Jones, a pioneer in hunting videos, known for his work on “Elk Fever.” Together, they set out to document the ingenuity and determination that define the bowhunting spirit.

Curt Wells, who famously crossed a river using a homemade cable car to access a remote spot in Minnesota to get the show’s first Pope & Young class whitetail during season one, continues this tradition as the host today. His commitment to showcasing the genuine bowhunting experience has established Bowhunter TV as a staple in the hunting community.

Reflecting on the series’ evolution, Wells says it is difficult to pick a single memory that stands out as there were so many good moments. “Choosing a favorite moment among 20 years of adventure is tough but several stand out. Like experiencing the true wilderness of the McKenzie Mountains in the Northwest Territories or the wilds of the Yukon, stalking a grizzly in Alaska, and hunting caribou against the backdrop of Greenlandic glaciers. Every hunt has been special in its own way, but finally taking a massive Yukon moose, watching my grandson arrow his first bear, and sharing elk camp in Arizona with my two sons are all highlights among the countless adventures.”

On the show’s impact over the years, Wells highlights its educational segments such as “Dead On,” “Better Bowhunter,” and “Moment of Truth.” “Our hope is to leave the viewer knowing something about bowhunting that they didn’t know previously,” he adds.

For its 20th season, viewers can expect more of the same thrilling adventures and educational content that have made Bowhunter TV a fan favorite. “We have evolved with the times when it comes to technical advancements,” Wells explains. “But it is still about being in the wild, getting close to game, raising our heart rate, and enjoying the bowhunting experience.”

When it comes to the future of Bowhunter TV, Wells remains optimistic. “As long as there are people out there who want to become bowhunters, Bowhunter TV will be there to do our part to help make that happen.”

Celebrate two decades of bowhunting adventures with Bowhunter TV by tuning in Thursdays nights at 10:30 p.m. ET on the Outdoor Channel and join the community of passionate bowhunters who appreciate the thrill of the hunt and the beauty of the great outdoors.
