Axis Deer Adventures in Oklahoma on Hardcore Carnivore on Outdoor Channel

Live Fire Cook and Professional Carnivore Jess Pryles Goes on an Axis Deer Hunt and Adds Pendleton Whisky to the Menu

DENVER (November 14, 2024) –  Join Jess Pryles, professional carnivore and chef, as she explores the world of hunting, butchering, and cooking all types of protein in her new original series, Hardcore Carnivore, airing on Outdoor Channel Mondays at 9:30 p.m. ET. Hardcore Carnivoreis part of the network’s “Taste of the Wild” Monday night lineup. On this coming Monday, November 18, Jess travels to Oklahoma to hunt Axis deer.

Introduced to the United States from India in the 1930s, the axis deer has made its home in the grassy stretches and dense thickets of Texas and Oklahoma. Known for their tender venison with a delicate, earthy flavor, these deer are a prized quarry amongst hunters seeking the perfect blend of taste without an overpowering gamey edge.

With the expertise of a seasoned Oklahoma guide, Jess Pryles will showcase not only the thrill of hunting but also her renowned butchery techniques. Viewers can look forward to learning the nuances of preparing venison backstrap, which Jess will grill over live fire—a method that promises to elevate the natural flavors of the meat.

Accompanying this culinary demonstration is the smooth, bold taste of Pendleton Whisky. A perfect pairing for the rich flavors of axis deer venison, Pendleton Whisky complements the experience, offering a moment to savor at the end of a successful hunt.

“Sharing the experience of hunting and cooking is what Hardcore Carnivore is all about,” said Jess Pryles. “The beautiful landscapes of Oklahoma provide an incredible backdrop for this adventure, and there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of enjoying a meal you’ve taken from the land yourself.”

Hardcore Carnivore, in partnership with Pendleton Whisky, dives deep into the world of meat—from commercial to small farm meat raising—and explores the best ways to hunt, butcher, and cook all types of protein.

Jess Pryles is a Hardcore Carnivore and she’s traveling the country where she’ll meet up with locals specializing in her favorite proteins. From dove hunting in Texas to harvesting Bison in Wisconsin and the delicious meals that she teaches us how to cook, it’s an epic meat-eating adventure like no other.
