AGLOW Presents Prestigious Golden Glow Award toIndiana State Senator Scott Baldwin

Lincoln, Neb.(Oct. 15, 2024) — The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) presented its prestigious Golden Glow Award to Indiana State Senator Scott Baldwin. The honor recognizes diverse and wide-reaching accomplishments in the field of outdoor communication.

The ceremony was part of the AGLOW annual conference, staged this year at the Metropolis Resort in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Indiana State Senator Scott Baldwin of Noblesville took a stand for trappers and science-based population management when he authored a bill that promulgated a bobcat trapping season in the Hoosier state. Baldwin’s bill asked the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to set a season and bag limit that would open bobcat to harvest if the agency deemed the population and some level of removal sustainable. The DNR removed the bobcat from the Indiana endangered species list in 2005 and has noted estimated population increases in the two decades since the species was delisted. Baldwin’s bill passed through the statehouse and was approved in the general assembly in late 2024. After an administrative law judge review, the DNR held several public hearings and moved ahead with establishing a trapping season in 2025.

As anti-hunting and anti-trapping opponents have pressured agencies in legislative and judicial arenas against allowing traditional, sustainable, and responsible harvest of wildlife, as has long been practiced in the United States as part of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, elected representatives with roots and interests in helping hunters, trappers, and conservationists are essential. AGLOW recognizes Senator Scott Baldwin for standing up for outdoor men and women and for the science-driven approach to wildlife management.

“As an outdoorsman, I understand that licensed hunting and trapping and science-based management practices are crucial to maintaining a balanced ecosystem in the state,” said State Sen. Scott Baldwin (R-Noblesville). “I am honored to receive the Golden Glow Award, and I will continue to advocate for policies that promote science-based wildlife management in the Indiana State Senate,” said Senator Baldwin.

While the Senator was unable to attend the event and personally receive his award, Trent Marsh, AGLOW Chairman of the Board, had a few words to say: “Senator Baldwin’s efforts to hold the Indiana DNR to its duties of properly managing Indiana wildlife is what opened the door for the management of bobcats in the Hoosier state. Hunters and trappers are the best tool for managing wildlife, and are absolutely critical to maintaining the North American model of game management, the gold standard of wild resource management in the world. By taking up the mantle of trappers in the Hoosier state and preventing the kind of quagmire we see with federally endangered animals like wolves and grizzly bears, Senator Baldwin has ensured that Hoosiers will have a managed and thriving resource for years to come.”
