CMP’s 2025 National Rimfire Sporter Match to Be Held on eTargets, Featuring New Rifle Class

By Ashley Dugan, CMP Staff Writer

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – For the first time, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will be utilizing its line of outdoor electronic targets for the 2025 National Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match, set for July 20 at the Camp Perry National Guard Training Facility in Port Clinton, Ohio! The National Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match and accompanying clinic are part of the National Rifle series – all being held on CMP’s electronic targets in 2025.

“The change to eTargets should improve the experience for the competitors,” said Brian Williams, CMP’s Highpower Manager. “The matches should run faster, without the need to hang targets and do the scoring.”

Unlike previous years, the 2025 National Rimfire Sporter event will be held on Camp Perry’s Petrarca Range – equipped with CMP’s eTargets year-round. The range features more conveniences, such as a covered firing line and adjacent parking.

Monitors placed alongside each competitor will instantly show shot placements during the match, while suspended displays above the firing line will allow spectators to follow along with each shot in real time.

The National Rimfire Sporter Match, one of the most well-attended events of the annual National Matches, is open to both adults and juniors of all experience levels. Using .22 caliber rifles at 50 and 25 yards, participants in the match traditionally chose from three separate classes: Open Sight (O), Telescope Sight (T) and Tactical Unlimited (TU).

Due to high demand, the CMP has added an “M-class” for 2025 to give competitors the option to use U.S. military rimfire training rifles during competition.

Registration for the 2025 National Matches opens March 1! The 2025 National Rifle Matches are set to be held July 22 through Aug. 3. The CMP’s use of eTargets will include all highpower rifle matches, National Trophy rifle competitions and rifle Games events. The target system will also be used for the National Mid/Long Range Matches, Aug. 4-9.

For the first time, the CMP will be utilizing the electronic targets of Petrarca Range for the National Rimfire Sporter Match.

About CMP’s Electronic Targets:

CMP’s line of outdoor electronic targets boasts some of the latest advancements in marksmanship sports. Featuring Kongsberg Target System (KTS) technology, the system includes monitors at each firing point that instantly display accurate shot scores – creating an enhanced experience for individuals on the firing line.

The KTS system has been permanently installed at CMP’s Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama since its inception as well as on Camp Perry’s Petrarca Range in Ohio. The mobile version of the KTS system, which has been featured at all CMP Travel Games events and the National Matches highpower series for the last several years, will be the applied targets for the 2025 National Matches.

As another advantage, the eTarget system at the National Matches will include the KTS Shooter’s Journal, which keeps a log of each individual’s shots/scores on the firing line. Visit the Electronic Targets page on the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/competitions/live-targets/ to view a video on how the eTarget system works!

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. It is dedicated to firearm safety and marksmanship training and to the promotion of marksmanship competition for citizens of the United States.
