Weekend Open Thread: Pigskin Chaos Edition

Hey there People of the Knife… How goes it?

I don’t know who said it, but “Being a sports fan is the only thing you can give yourself over to without any actual consequence…

I admit, I have had a better couple of weeks when it comes to things that don’t really matter.

Just because the former coach of the skunk weasels got under our coach’s skin.

So Day decided to try to run it through two all All-American Defensive Tackles with an offensive line missing and All-American Center and Left Tackle instead of throwing it to his 3 NFL caliber receivers.

There are 100 ways to play a football game, and Day/Kelly chose the singular way to lose it.

There was a rumor this week, but Urban is not coming back.

So congrats Zach…

You get to laugh another year.

It is all a matter of perspective…

Ohio State has lost 5 or more games in a season 6 times since 1948. Last time was 2011. scUM has done it 6 times since 2008. 2011 is the year tOSU fired Tressell over a couple of players trading gear for tattoos in violation of NCAA rules. Which seems kinda quint in the NIL era. Luke Fickell was interim HC.

I am sure that they will have a blast at the Meineke Bowl or wherever they end up.

Meanwhile, we are hosting a Playoff game in The Shoe.

And despite the loss, our players have some underappreciated skills…

I don’t have faith in Day or Kelly at this point. I don’t think our cobbled together O-line is enough to pull off a deep run in the playoffs. I am not sure these guys pick themselves up and rally. But who knows?

After all of the hand-wringing, the calls to fire Day, the flag planting fracas, the soul crushing loss to a really mid Ann Arbor team, one thing remains true…

I have absolute faith in God’s sense of humor, and nothing would be funnier than the Buckeyes winning a Natty after all of the chaos.

I am not saying it will happen, I am fairly certain it won’t, but we have a chip and a chair.

We have a chance, but I am not holding my breathe.

Turns out even getting thrashed by Oklahoma wasn’t enough to keep the committee from doing what they wanted…

As we wait to find out the seedings for the playoffs, let’s check out the KNIFE Magazine Events Calendar.

By the time this publishes, this short, one night show will be over. And since it is invite only, you would already know and be there if you were,

But you can go to the Oregon show…

If you happen to be in that neck of the woods anyway.

Meanwhile, next weekend in our neck of the woods…

And that is a wrap for 2024, at least knife show wise.

I am not a gigantic fan of Cheryl Crow, but some of her stuff brings back good memories of Kenyon…

A few weeks back, I referred to “the soundtrack of my life”, and this certainly was regularly in the background freshman year in particular.

God might have a sense of humor, but God hates Cleveland.

I don’t want either to have much power…

How is it going Del?

This would apply to you in  Canada as well…

I hope this doesn’t apply to any of us…

That isn’t good. Nor is this…

Tis the season.

That Target toffee popcorn is my Achilles heel. I think they put crack in it.

But 2024 can end well for someone…

Time for this week’s knife giveaway, courtesy of CRKT. This week we are drawing, from the comments 2 weeks ago, for a Pilar Large. Congrats to Rod, (of RJ’s Knives on youtube). I actually drew Hocky 3 times, but he is not playing this week. So I kept drawing and Rod came up. Congrats, and we all loved your Barlow video.

RJ’s Knives: My Barlow Collection

Next week we will be giving away a Richard Rogers Cinco, from CRKT…

Good, general purpose EDC from a really highly regarded designer. The CEO is probably his best known design.

Usual rules apply. Up to 5 comments or replies are your entries. If you are a new commenter, your comments count double, but are held in moderation until I can approve the first batch . Good luck everyone.

In our non themed memes this week…

I could have saved that for a Kenny Loggins-themed WOT musical guest, but I couldn’t think of 2 songs I would like enough to use. But the meme is “Allright” at least.

Dads rock.

I never much cared for astrology. But that should be the nail in the coffin.

Trebuchets > Girls.

Is that too much to ask?

Yeah, that would suck.

Checkmate.

Close enough.

Truth.

Uphill both ways.

Glad it worked out for ya.

The struggle is real.

Too off color?

I’d believe it.

If you think about it, its true…

Kinda gross though.

Ouch.

Big road win for sure.

I didn’t vote for him.

Changing gears for a moment, as I have each week since October 7th, 2023.Why do I do this?

That is why.

As I write this tonight, it seems that things may be breaking Israel’s way. Hezbollah is in tatters. Lebanon (hopefully) feels like with help it can keep them out of the area below the Litani River, where they can threaten Israel’s northern settlements. This was supposed to happen last time there was a war in southern Lebanon, but now Israel is killing militants faster than Iran can resupply them. Iran has bigger problems right now, its vassal Assad is about to lose Syria to rebel forces.

And come January 20th, there will be a new Sheriff in town.

Whatever your views are on President Trump domestically, he got far too little credit for his foreign policy successes in his first term. In particular the Abraham Accords, which have led to trade and diplomatic relations between Israel and the Gulf States, which threatens Iran more than any military strike.

So the ball, as always is in Hamas’s court. Release the Hostages and the war ends. It is that simple.

Bring them home now.

Once again, Cheryl Crow, this time with Kid Rock…

This came out after college, but it is such a great song. At the time it came out, she was a bigger star than he was. Probably the first song of his I got to like.

Never mind me…

I should have known…

I don’t care.

Richard Dawkins does…

Yes. Yes we are.

For better or for worse, yes it was.

Have a great weekend everyone.

And Muck Fichigan. Even if they do get to keep rubbing our noses in it for another year.
