Knife Vs. Gun: Armed Citizen Stops Knife Attack In Parking Lot

A Connecticut man, Obadiah Claud, was arrested after charging at another individual with a knife in a parking lot. The intended victim managed to stop the attack by drawing his legally possessed firearm, leading Claud to flee and later be apprehended by police.

WEST HAVEN, CT (2-minute read) — A man was taken into custody following a violent encounter in a parking lot where he allegedly charged an intended victim with a knife. According to police, the incident took place at approximately 11:35 a.m. when 45-year-old Obadiah Claud allegedly advanced on another person while wielding a knife.

In response, the intended victim drew a legally possessed firearm to stop the attack.

Upon seeing the firearm, Claud reportedly abandoned his advance and quickly fled the scene in his vehicle. Law enforcement promptly initiated an investigation and managed to locate Claud’s vehicle later in West Haven. They tracked him to a nearby business, where he was subsequently arrested.

Following the arrest, Claud faced multiple charges, including threatening in the second degree, illegal possession of a deadly weapon, and second-degree breach of peace.

Authorities have confirmed that Claud’s actions were not random, suggesting that there was a prior connection or conflict between the individuals involved. Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to this incident.

Claud is currently being held on a $50,000 bond as he awaits further legal proceedings. This incident underscores the value of situational awareness and preparedness, especially in public spaces.

Safety Tip: When carrying a firearm, always stay aware of your surroundings and know the legal regulations for self-defense in your area. Proper training in firearm handling and conflict de-escalation techniques can be essential in dangerous situations.
