Michigan Homeowner Defends Against Intruders With Crossbow

LANSING, MI — A Monroe County homeowner used a crossbow to fend off two home invaders early Tuesday morning in Frenchtown Township. The incident occurred on the 4500 block of Huron Street at around 12:38 a.m., according to local media WLNS.

Authorities responded to a call reporting a home invasion in progress, where two suspects broke into a residence occupied by two people. As the intruders forced their way inside, one of the residents, armed with a crossbow, shot an arrow at one of the men. The wounded intruder, a 32-year-old from Newport, fled the scene alongside his accomplice after being struck by the arrow.

Law enforcement quickly apprehended both suspects. The 32-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital for surgery to remove the arrow and remains in police custody as he recovers. His 41-year-old accomplice, also from Newport, was arrested shortly after the invasion and is currently held in the Monroe County Jail. Police have not yet released the identities of the suspects, pending formal charges.

Authorities noted that this was not a random incident and likely stemmed from a prior altercation between the individuals involved.

This case highlights the importance of preparedness in home defense situations. While firearms are more common for self-defense, this incident shows that any effective weapon can help a homeowner protect themselves when faced with an imminent threat. However, always ensure that your choice of weapon is legally permissible and that you’re trained to use it safely and effectively. Remember, the key to self-defense is neutralizing the threat without unnecessary harm.
