Self-Defense Claim In Deadly Shooting And Stabbing In Ohio

A deadly altercation occurred on Lincrest Drive in Forest Park, Ohio, involving a stabbing and shooting. One man is dead, while another claims self-defense after making a 911 call. Police continue to investigate the case.

FOREST PARK, OH (2-minute read) — Forest Park Police have identified the men involved in a fatal altercation that took place early Wednesday morning. Authorities responded around 2:15 a.m. to a call at the 1800 block of Lincrest Drive, where they found 28-year-old Anthony Braxton outside a home with multiple stab wounds. Inside the residence, officers discovered 66-year-old Timothy Woodson, who had suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Braxton and Woodson likely inflicted the injuries upon each other during a violent encounter. In a 911 call made by Braxton, he claimed he shot Woodson in self-defense, stating, “I shot him because he was stabbing me,” and added that he had been stabbed multiple times.

When asked by the dispatcher what his relation to Woodson was, Braxton responded, “I have no idea who he is.” Braxton was later taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Forest Park authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have not announced whether Braxton will face charges for the shooting. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the Forest Park Police Department at 513-595-5220.

Investigating Potential Self-Defense Claims

In cases like this, where both parties suffer injuries during an altercation, law enforcement must carefully examine the sequence of events to determine if self-defense is justifiable. Ohio’s self-defense laws require that an individual reasonably believes they are at risk of imminent harm before using deadly force.

Safety Tip: Understanding local firearm laws is crucial for responsible self-defense. Always familiarize yourself with the legal requirements for carrying and using a firearm in your area.
