Road Rage Turns Fatal In Littleton: Police Investigate Gunfire After Crash

A 38-year-old man, Eric Rexford, was fatally shot after a car chase in Littleton. Police are investigating whether the shooting was a case of self-defense.

LITTLETON, NH (2-minute read) — Authorities have identified Eric Rexford, 38, of Littleton, as the man who died from gunshot wounds during a fatal incident on Monday night. According to the attorney general’s office, Rexford succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries after an altercation that began with a reported vehicle chase in the town. Investigators revealed that Rexford and the shooter were acquainted, although the identity of the shooter has yet to be disclosed.

The situation unfolded after a 911 call was placed at around 11:10 p.m. on Monday night by a man claiming that he was being followed and intentionally struck by another vehicle. During the call, gunfire erupted, and police were dispatched to the scene near Pleasant Street, where they found both vehicles halted after an apparent collision. Rexford was found wounded and later died after being transported to a hospital.

According to investigators, the 911 caller identified Rexford as the person pursuing and repeatedly striking his car. While no arrests have been made, authorities are investigating whether the shooting was in self-defense. Both individuals knew each other, and officials stated there is no current danger to the public.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati mentioned that investigators are working to determine what led to the confrontation and shooting, conducting interviews to establish the sequence of events. The public’s help is being sought, with officials encouraging anyone with information to contact the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit.

Safety Tip: If you find yourself in a road rage situation, remain calm and avoid confrontation. Never leave your vehicle to confront another driver, and if you feel threatened, call 911 and drive to a public, well-lit area.
