Weekend Open Thread: Don’t call it a comeback edition

Weekend Open Thread: Don’t call it a comeback edition

Hey all, after a week off, the Weekend Open Thread is back for your viewing enjoyment.

Unlike the Boeing astronauts, we are back after only a short delay.

I didn’t forget the WOT last week, I was just swamped. I appreciate everyone’s understanding. Press Day for the October issue was Wednesday, but now it’s time  it is time to kick back and enjoy some memey goodness.

Somehow I doubt it was the actual vonBraun. But the prank would be epic.

That isn’t funny HAL.

Elon to the rescue.

Boeing has problems, but not like Boeing whistleblowers do…

Anyone have weekend plans? I plan on watching College Gameday, Vols v Nooga at noon, Buckeyes v Akron at 3:30, Making wings for dinner, and watching whatever other games look interesting.

I know it is only Akron, but dang…College Football is back y’all.

I won’t be watching That Team Up North* . But I am loving the fact that the NCAA is about to drop the hammer on the Skunk Weasels.

There is more going on in the world than college football, but no Knife shows for two weeks…

The embeds are broken again. I checked both show websites. They are 9/14-15

Louisiana Knife Show

and 9/15…

NCCA One-Day Knife Show

I swear…

We will get that fixed again as soon as we can.  I remember Lisa saying it wasn’t easy.

Anyone who has been following the WOT for a while has seen a pretty wide range of musical guests. I do listen to everyone from Old Crow Medicine Show to 90s hip hop. One of these days I will have to use Warren G’s Regulator. I don’t know how much some of you will appreciate it, but I hope you at least listen to a little bit of things you don’t know.

But that is a topic for another WOT. Obviously you knew this was coming…

You can just skip to 3:15 for the greatest drum drop in rock history.

Phil Collins is actually a big bowie knife collector, and he donated a large part of his collection to the Alamo Museum. Not all of them are of unquestionable authenticity, but I will leave that story to Mark, as he has first person knowledge and I don’t.

Going back the Gen X thing, though it applies to earlier generations as well…

I can skim an article in less than 20 seconds. That is usually less time than the ad takes in a video.

Apparently the laugh emoji is “problematic”, and I read that thumbs up is passive aggressive or something. To which I have one response…

There is an election coming up…

With the exception of the First and Second Amendments, we avoid political memes as a general rule, but this was just too stinking funny…

But there are things afoot even more sinister than the US election…

Be afraid.

Indeed.

Run away, but do so without rhythm…

That woman will live in infamy.

My wife and I were downtown tonight. So we drove by the Sunsphere. Which, contrary to what the Simpsons claims, is not full of wigs.

Worlds Fair Park is actually pretty nice. Knoxville has a

I have no idea what that even means.

Not really a meme, but it should inspire a few comments.  I will chime in midweek with my .02

Since we are talking about the comment section, it is time for this week’s drawing…

Congrats to Mark R., he wins the CRKT Mbombo. Number 16 for the Win.

I still need to send Hocky his Carson. I will get both out on tuesday.

Our next drawing will be for a CRKT Nax. One additional rule this week…in at least one of your comments, you need to tell us what you would do with the thing. You can be humorous or serious, it doesn’t matter. But the knife isn’t special enough for a two token drawing, but is more expensive than the typical single drawing. SO I am going to make you work for it a little.

Otherwise our usual rules apply. Up to 5 comments or replies are your entries in the drawing. If you are new to the blog, your comments count double, but will be held in moderation until I have a chance to approve the first round.

Good luck everyone.

We haven’t shared Hawk Tuah memes until now, but this one is a fishing meme. You have to spit on that thang or your knots will break.

Olé.

Physics isn’t a good idea. It’s the law.

I know the feeling.

I never thought about Transformers being technologically dated.

Peak Cell Phone.

Inflation is out of control, have you seen the price of ammo?

The Second Amendment ensures the others.

Knives are Arms under the 2nd Amendment.

It is all a racket.

It never is actually about morality so long as the government gets its piece.

Be ungovernable.

Don’t even try.

(Distanceraptor/Timeraptor) x Massraptor = Inertiaraptor.

We don’t judge here.

I found that more amusing than I should have. But not enough to make Harry Belefonte the musical guest.

Larry Legend. The NBA peaked during my childhood.

USA! USA!

Better than farting in this car with the doors closed…

This seems like a good idea…

Question everything…

Definitely the Unicorn.

Sign me up.

You need enough clearing to ensure overlapping fields of fire.

One probably understands that faster if they are unfamiliar with Ohio geography.

Too soon? Is this?

Never too son in memeworld.

Danger Will Robinson.

I still don’t understand the physics of that one.

About right.

Still a good boy.

Don’t forget to tip you waitress.

Things went south slowly, then all at once.

Truth.

As I write this, Israel is celebrating the rescue of one of the hostages this week, even as more remains have been found. The rescued man is a Bedouin Muslim and  is an Israeli citizen.

You know those evil Israelis and their Apartheid state with Muslim and Christian members of the Knesset? Israel is hated because it is a multiethnic, pluralistic sssssociety that prospers in a sea of Islamic autocracy.

This war could end tomorrow if Hamas releases the hostages, who have now been in captivity for almost a year. Instead, Iran and its proxy Hezbollah are threatening to escalate attacks in the North. While I disagree with the notion that the assemblage of Jordanian refugees that call themselves Palestinians have a claim to the land of Israel, there is no such land dispute in the north with Lebanon.  Hezbollah attacks Israel because it wants to eradicate the Jews from the earth.  I will not be silent so long as I have a platform.

Another person who won’t be silent is Michael Rapaport. No one has ever accused him of mincing words.

Remember All Eyes on Rafah? Remember that?#ApartheidIsrael

— MichaelRapaport (@MichaelRapaport) August 27, 2024

I look forward to retiring this section of the WOT. But I will not abandon it until the Hostages are all returned.

Never Again is Now.

Once again, Phil Collins. Or at least Genesis. I like a lot of Phil’s stuff, but a lot of his most famous solo songs are kinda slow and sappy. I almost used a cool sound-board bootleg of Sussudio, but went with this instead…

Life is too short to not have an eclectic taste in music.

I have to. I selfishly withheld your weekly meme fix last week, but I appreciate your understanding.

Two weeks is a lot of time in meme-world.

RIP Mitch Hedberg.

I might have to do a Mitch Hedberg themed WOT sometime. He died almost 20 years ago, but was one of the all time great dead-pan comics.

I’m screwed. At least I have football.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend. Go Bucks!
