First Look: Rosco 11.5 Inch AR-15 Barrels

Rosco Manufacturing is unveiling yet another AR-15 barrel. This time it is an 11.5-inch-long, 5.56 NATO “Husky” barrel designed around the classic AR-15 pattern carbine-length gas system. However, it isn’t just a run-of-the-mill 5.56 NATO barrel either, as the new Rosco Limited Series Husky barrel is inspired by the Global War On Terror-era SOCOM M4 Carbine barrel profile.

“As our limited series continues, we wanted to give you our take on a ‘SOCOM’ 11.5-inch barrel,” said Rosco Manufacturing President Mike D’Angelo Jr. “While this barrel is only a few ounces more than our Bloodline 11.5-inch barrel, the rugged ‘Husky’ profile helps defeat the heat and reduce barrel whip, making for an accurate and enjoyable shooting experience.”

The new Rosco Manufacturing Series Husky barrel has a phosphate coating external finish along with a chrome-lined chamber and bore. This button-rifled AR-15 pattern barrel is fully made in the United States of American with American sourced steel.

11.5-inch Limited Edition, “Husky” Profile 5.56 NATO Barrel Features

  • Barrel Length: 11.5 inches
  • Twist Rate: 1×7-inch, RH
  • Barrel Crown: 11 Degree
  • Barrel Thread: 1/2 x 28 inch

When it comes to large-format, AR-15-pattern pistols or SBRs (short barreled rifles), the 11.5-inch barrel length has been a steadfast classic in AR-15s for generations. At this barrel length, the bullet still gets enough distance to travel down the bore and develop a useful muzzle velocity while allowing the end user to have a more maneuverable firearm. When paired with a carbine-length gas system and an H2 buffer, these shorter barrels will cycle reliably with 5.56 NATO ammunition. The experiences from the Global War On Terror have also taught American servicemen the value of pairing heavy-for-caliber 5.56mm bullets with shorter barrels for improved terminal performance.
