Homeowner Shoots Known Intruder During 3am Break-in Attempt

A homeowner in DeKalb County shot a suspected home invader during an early morning break-in attempt. The suspect is expected to survive, and no charges are being filed against the homeowner.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (3-minute read) — An alleged home invader is recovering in the hospital after being shot by a DeKalb County resident early Friday morning.

Officials report the shooting occurred around 4 a.m. on the 3000 block of Bedevere Circle. Police responding to the scene found a person who had been shot.

Investigators believe the two individuals involved had a dispute earlier in the evening. After parting ways, the suspect allegedly attempted to break into the resident’s home and was subsequently shot.

The suspected intruder is expected to survive their injuries. Police have stated that the homeowner is not being charged at this time.

The Importance of Home Defense

This incident highlights the critical importance of home defense and being prepared for potential threats. Ensuring the safety of oneself and loved ones is paramount. Here are a few tips for effective home defense:

  1. Secure Entry Points: Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked. Consider investing in reinforced locks and shatterproof glass.
  2. Install a Security System: Modern security systems with cameras, alarms, and remote monitoring can provide an additional layer of security.
  3. Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Stay vigilant and aware of unusual activities around your home.
  4. Training and Preparedness: Familiarize yourself with your firearm and consider professional training. Understanding the proper use and maintenance of your firearm is crucial for responsible ownership.
  5. Legal Awareness: Know the local laws regarding self-defense and firearm use. This knowledge can be crucial in situations where you may need to defend yourself or your property.

Home defense is a vital aspect of personal safety. While firearms can be an effective tool for protection, responsible ownership and usage are essential. Training and legal awareness can help ensure that you are prepared to handle threats effectively and legally.

Safety Tip: Always store your firearms securely when not in use. Consider using a gun safe or lockbox to prevent unauthorized access, especially if there are children in the home.
