First Look: Thunderclap Holsters from Galco

Galco Gunleather has just announced the release of its new Thunderclap leather holster which is part of Galco’s Masterbilt series. Masterbilt holsters are Galco’s premium quality, top of the line holsters, all of which are handcrafted in America.

Thunderclap holsters are currently exclusively offered for single stack 1911-stlye pistols with four or five inch barrels like those from major gunmakers including Colt, Wilson Combat, Tisas USA, Taurus, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Ruger and Smith & Wesson, as well as any other government frame full size 1911 pistol that conforms to the dimensions of one of the makes listed above. Galco sells these holsters in either a tan or a black leather finish and punches slits for carry belts up to 1.5 inches wide. The primary belt loop is metal reinforced for extra strength and rigidity and the trailing slit is positioned in such a way to also aid with concealment, even for a full size government frame single stack pistol.

The new Galco Thunderclap is an OWB (outside the waistband) belt holster made from fully lined premium steerhide and makes use of detailed hand molding for both the purpose of function and form. The smooth leather interior lining protects firearms finishes while drawing and re-holstering while also providing the carrier some form of tactile feedback. Because the new Galco Thunderclap is meant to be carried on the belt and close to the body, it has a very neutral amount of “rake” or the vertical tilt to make drawing from the hip very smooth and easy, whether that’s behind the hip in the classic 4 o’clock position, in the middle of the hip or slightly forward. The Thunderclap also comes with a relieved trigger guard area to allow a full handed firing grip while the gun still sits in the holster. Internally, there is a tunnel built in to prevent the sharp corners of the iron sights from gouging the interior of the holster.

The Thunderclap series have a starting retail price of $249. Please visit galcogunleather.com to learn more about this holster or other products from Galco.
