Bringing Modern Trapping to Life: New Video Series Available for Agencies and Partners

Washington, D.C. – A powerful new suite of 12 professionally produced videos is now available to help agencies, organizations, and conservation partners communicate the story of modern regulated trapping with clarity, credibility, and impact. Developed through a Multistate Conservation Grant by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in collaboration with key conservation partners, the series offers compelling, accessible content designed to inform, engage, and inspire both the public and the broader conservation community.

The video collection highlights the vital role trapping plays in modern wildlife management while addressing common questions and concerns with thoughtful, science-based messaging. Viewers are introduced to the purpose, regulation, and application of trapping today, including how fish and wildlife agencies use it to manage populations, reduce human-wildlife conflicts, and support conservation outcomes across North America.

Importantly, the series also showcases the continued advancements in animal welfare made possible through the Best Management Practices for Trapping program. By emphasizing the research, professionalism, and ethical standards behind modern regulated trapping, the videos help strengthen public understanding and trust while providing agencies and partners with consistent messaging they can confidently share.

“Modern regulated trapping remains an important wildlife management tool, and these videos help explain that in a way that is clear, credible, and accessible,” said Chuck Sykes, Executive Director of the Council to Advance Hunting and Shooting Sports (Council). “This series gives agencies and partners high-quality resources they can use to communicate the science, responsibility, and conservation value behind trapping to a wide range of audiences.”

The series covers a broad range of topics, including the benefits of regulated trapping, its role in supporting species conservation such as wild sheep and waterfowl, the shared values of hunters and trappers, the uses of fur, and the importance of safety and professionalism in the field. Whether used for outreach, education, or professional training, the videos provide a strong foundation for informed, science-based communication.

To maximize flexibility and reach, each video is available in both 16:9 and 9:16 formats, making the content easy to use across presentations, websites, and social media platforms. This allows agencies and partners to seamlessly integrate the videos into existing communication strategies, whether engaging stakeholders in person or reaching new audiences online.

Agencies and NGO partners are strongly encouraged to incorporate the videos into their outreach and education efforts and to share them widely across their networks. Expanding the reach of these resources will help ensure accurate, balanced information about trapping is accessible to the audiences who need it most.

In addition to the new series, a broad range of trapper education resources is available through the AFWA Best Management Practices for Trapping website, providing even more support for agencies and partners working to advance informed, science-based conservation communication.

Together, these videos represent more than a new content library. They are a strategic investment in the future of conservation communication and a valuable tool for strengthening public understanding of one of wildlife management’s most important practices.
