Mountain House Brings Bold Flavors to the Backcountry with Two New Meals

Trail tested and protein packed, the leader in the freeze-dried food industry introduces Cajun Style Jambalaya and Breakfast Fried Rice

ALBANY, Ore. – April 6, 2026 – Mountain House today added two new high-protein entrees to its line of freeze-dried offerings: Cajun Style Jambalaya and Breakfast Fried Rice. Packed with 32g of protein per pouch, these meals are cooked in small batches and freeze-dried on-site in Albany, Oregon, delivering consistent flavor backed by Mountain House’s 30-Year Taste Guarantee. Jambalaya delivers a kick of spice after a long day on the trail while the Breakfast Fried Rice is ideal for dawn patrol starts.

Developed by Mountain House Associate Food Scientist and Louisiana native Amy Nguyen, Jambalaya features light, fluffy long grain rice, smoky and savory andouille sausage and a vibrant Cajun spice blend built around the classic holy trinity of onions, bell peppers and celery. The new recipe brings the heat with a spicy kick when you need it most.

“My main goal for this recipe was for it to feel like home,” said Nguyen. “Jambalaya is the ultimate comfort dish; it’s about gathering together, whether at a tailgate or a remote basecamp.”

Originally developed for the U.S. military, Breakfast Fried Rice is now available to consumers for the first time. This lightweight breakfast is the perfect morning kick start, featuring ingredients like savory turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, and crisp vegetables, with hints of ginger and soy sauce.

“We wanted to capture the scrappy, satisfying tradition of throwing together what’s left from camp dinners, usually rice, with breakfast staples to create a delicious, convenient meal,” said Director of Research and Development Drew Huebsch. “Crafted from high-quality ingredients, our Breakfast Fried Rice is perfect for any situation where a quick, hearty meal is needed.”

The new entrees are available for $12.49 MSRP at outdoor specialty and major retailers nationwide as well as online at mountainhouse.com.
