ABERDEEN, NC – A North Carolina homeowner held a knife-wielding suspect at gunpoint late Sunday night after the man allegedly tried to break into the home, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Police say the incident happened just before 11:00 p.m. on March 1 at a residence in the area of Bethesda Avenue.

According to officers, the homeowner and his spouse were inside the residence when a man entered the home’s screened-in porch and attempted to gain entry into the house. The homeowner reported that the man had a knife in his possession.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located both the homeowner and the suspect on the porch. Police said the homeowner had the suspect at gunpoint and was holding him there until officers arrived and took him into custody. Officers also secured the knife at the scene.

More from USA Carry:

The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Tylee Keyshaun Cannady of Aberdeen.

During a search of Cannady, officers said they also located marijuana paraphernalia on his person.

Following their investigation, officers obtained warrants charging Cannady with felony first-degree burglary and felony breaking or entering with the intent to terrorize. He also faces charges of misdemeanor first-degree trespass and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Cannady was arrested and taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he was given no bond pending review by a judicial official.

Incidents like this highlight how quickly a home intrusion can turn into a dangerous situation. For many Americans, the right to keep and bear arms exists so that law-abiding citizens have the ability to protect themselves and their families when faced with an immediate threat.

In this case, police say the homeowner was able to safely hold the suspect until law enforcement arrived, bringing the situation to an end without further harm.
