Uncle Intervenes, Shoots Two of Three Suspects in Rolex Robbery Outside Texas Costco

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A planned online sale meeting at a Costco on the Northwest Freeway turned into an armed robbery and shootout after multiple suspects allegedly attempted to rob a victim at gunpoint, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 4 officials.

Authorities say the incident began when a man arranged to sell a Rolex watch through an online listing and agreed to meet a buyer at the Costco location in the 26000 block of the Northwest Freeway. Investigators said the buyer arrived accompanied by two additional individuals.

During the meeting, the suspects allegedly produced handguns and began robbing the victim, ultimately taking possession of the watch.

According to Constable Mark Herman, the victim’s uncle exited the store during the robbery and witnessed what was happening. The uncle was armed and intervened, leading to an exchange of gunfire between him and the suspects.

Officials stated that two of the three suspects were shot during the incident. All three suspects fled the scene but were located by deputies within approximately an hour.

One suspect, identified as a 16-year-old juvenile, was detained after investigators tracked the group to a residence. The other two suspects, ages 17 and 18, were located at a nearby hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Authorities said both are expected to survive.

Law enforcement recovered multiple firearms connected to the suspects as well as the stolen Rolex watch during the investigation. Officials also confirmed that no innocent bystanders were injured despite gunfire occurring in a busy retail parking lot.

All suspects are facing aggravated robbery charges.

Constable Herman noted that this was the second similar incident in Harris County within a week involving individuals meeting strangers to complete online sales that escalated into gun violence.

Incidents like this reinforce the risks that can come with private marketplace transactions, especially when meeting strangers to exchange high-value items. As covered in our guide to private sales and concealed carry, criminals sometimes use online listings to set up robberies rather than legitimate purchases, turning what appears to be a routine meeting into a dangerous situation. Choosing well-lit locations, bringing another person when possible, and considering designated safe exchange areas such as police department parking lots can help reduce risk. Even in public places, situational awareness remains critical, as threats can develop quickly and without warning. Lawful defensive force may only become necessary when faced with an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm, making preparation and awareness key components of personal safety.
