Concealed Carry Holder Shoots Armed Robbery Suspect in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin Neighborhood

CHICAGO, IL — A concealed carry permit holder defended himself during an early morning attempted robbery in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side, resulting in one suspect being shot and both taken into custody.

The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of West Montana Street. According to Chicago Sun Times, a 39-year-old man had just exited his vehicle when he was approached by two men. One of the suspects allegedly brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s belongings.

In response, the concealed carry holder drew his legally owned firearm and fired, striking one of the suspects, a 23-year-old man, in the legs. The wounded suspect was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital and was reported to be in good condition.

Both suspects were arrested at the scene. As of now, police have not announced any formal charges. Area 5 detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

This case highlights the importance of situational awareness, especially in transitional spaces such as entering or exiting a vehicle. Concealed carriers should always be mindful of their surroundings and be prepared to respond quickly and legally when faced with a credible threat of deadly force.
