“Be the Story” Outdoor Channel’s Kent Rollins Shares Cowboy Wisdom on “The Michael Waddell Podcast”

DENVER (November 5, 2025) – In the latest episode of The Michael Waddell Podcast, presented by Spandau Arms and in partnership with Spartan Precision and Folds of Honor, Waddell sits down with Kent Rollins, the celebrated host of The Cast Iron Cowboy TV series on Outdoor Channel. The two share a candid conversation about self-reliance, frontier cooking, storytelling, and a life lived well outdoors. As Rollins shared during the podcast, “Everybody reads the story, don’t read the story – be the story.”

The Michael Waddell Podcast is produced by Outdoor Sportsman Group and is available widely on Outdoor Channel YouTube, MyOutdoorTV, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and OutdoorChannel.com, to name a few.

This new episode gives listeners an inside look at Rollins’ philosophy on simple living and preparedness. He shares his straightforward, old-school approach to surviving off the land, combining practical hunting skills with pantry staples.

Rollins shares that every day is a blessing to him, from beginning as a cowboy and elk guide for hunters, to trying his hand as a chuckwagon cook making $40 a day. “It started becoming something more after word got out about my cooking, beginning with Food TV back in the early 90’s. But they told me to say certain things on camera in my earpiece, and I said to them, ‘I’m not going to say that.’”

From experiencing heatstroke while cooking in 100-degree heat and frostbite from cold nights, Rollins shares that everyone needs molding – some just more than others. “There’s three horses – doubt, fright, and I ain’t.  People are always wishing they had a rearview mirror that would show you what’s ahead of you instead of what’s behind you. I think the biggest thing is faith. You must have that faith to make that first initial step up into that stirrup. There’s always a little fear in everything. You aren’t alone in life; God is always with you.”

“Kent is the real deal. His authenticity and cowboy wisdom are an inspiration,” said Michael Waddell. “He’s not just teaching people how to cook; he’s mentoring the next generation of outdoorsmen and women on what it means to be truly self-sufficient and find that grit inside of them to carry on – no matter what the challenge. It was an honor to have him on.”

The Michael Waddell Podcast releases new episodes every other week.

Waddell’s story began in the backwoods of Booger Bottom, Georgia, where he grew up surrounded by nature, family, and a love for the outdoors. A self-proclaimed “rowdy redneck,” his passion for hunting and storytelling led him to win a Realtree turkey-calling contest, which launched his career in the outdoor industry. From guiding and filming hunts to creating hit shows like Realtree Road Trips and Bone Collector, Waddell has become a beloved figure in the outdoor world.
